Every stop on the THOP Fest Tour brings a different energy, but the Los Angeles competition delivered something we hadn't seen before.
Hosted at The Slipper Clutch in Downtown Los Angeles, the night featured an incredible lineup of independent artists, each bringing their own style, sound, and story to the stage. As the competition came to a close, one thing became clear: choosing a winner wasn't going to be easy.
In the end, it wasn't.
After careful deliberation, the judges declared a tie, awarding festival performances to both finalists. One of those artists was Irie Givens.
For anyone who has experienced Irie's work, the outcome makes perfect sense.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Irie Givens approaches music from a perspective that extends far beyond traditional hip-hop. As an interdisciplinary educator and multimedia artist, his creative process is shaped by a passion for learning, culture, and connection.
After earning a master's degree in Creative Industries Design through Taiwan's National Cheng Kung University as a Fulbright scholar, he transformed his academic research into Lo-Fi Language Learning, an innovative platform that teaches English through hip-hop.
That same curiosity fuels his music.
Rather than chasing trends, Irie creates immersive projects that blend thoughtful lyricism, atmospheric production, and expansive storytelling. His concept-driven approach encourages listeners to slow down, reflect, and experience each record as more than a collection of songs.
That artistic mindset carried over seamlessly to the stage in Los Angeles.
His performance wasn't built around flashy moments or gimmicks. Instead, it unfolded with intention, drawing the audience into his world one verse at a time. Every lyric felt deliberate, every transition purposeful, creating a set that lingered long after the final note.
It was exactly the kind of performance that sparked conversation among the judges.
Sometimes competition produces a clear-cut winner. Other times, two artists leave such a lasting impression that recognizing only one simply doesn't feel right.
That's what happened in Downtown Los Angeles.
By earning a tie for first place, Irie Givens secured his spot at this year's Happiness of Pursuit Festival, where he'll have another opportunity to share his unique blend of artistry, education, and innovation with an even larger audience.
The THOP Fest Tour exists to celebrate artists who carve their own path, and Irie Givens embodies that spirit in every sense.
Congratulations to Irie Givens on an unforgettable performance and a well-deserved place on The Happiness of Pursuit Festival lineup.
